jjgrl asked: If you are then what is the style that you train in? I understand that MA is for defense, but there are a lot of styles that gear towards mostly competition for example MMA, Judo, and taekwondo all have alot of tournaments. Which means that they would focus alot on attacks. I would like to seek out some arts that focus more on deffense and I would like to hear it from those who train in that style. Thank you all for your time.
Thank you all for the great answers. I appoligize for not adding this earlier. But, let me point out that I have been training in jujitsu (goshin techniques) for a little over 3 yrs, but I am seperated from my gym geographicaly and have been considering cross training. I have focused strictly on my core art, touching on some Judo and grappling, and would like to continue, but its hard to get there as often as I need and wanted to try something compatible. I don’t want to train with a new instructor in my core art, because I continue to commute, when I can, to my home gym. I also don’t want to end up in an art that puts a lot of focus on tournaments. Thanks again if you have any advise I welcome gratefully.

Muna wa Wanjiru asked: When you are looking into buying uniforms and other equipment for the different sports you are sure to find ones that fit you. For MMA you will need to look for the MMA gear that will allow you to perform your various exercises. As each type of MMA has different moves you will need to look into the clothes and gear which will keep you safe while you are practicing your brand of martial arts.
You will find that you can buy high quality MMA gear from stores which sell sports equipment and also from martial arts supply stores. You will find lots of different gear that will help you in your martial arts classes. You can also buy the MMA gear that you want from the internet too.
The most sensible way to get the correct MMA gear that you will need is to ask from your instructor exactly what is needed. This gear will change according to your class and skill level. At first however you will need gear that provide protection to a degree and allows you to practice the full range of movements without any hindrance.
This means that when you are looking at the various types of MMA gear which is available it is best if you think about what sort of daily activities you will be indulging in. you will also need to remember the various warm up exercises and steps which need to be carried out.
There is one item that you should keep in mind when you are hunting for MMA gear. This is the fact that depending on the quality of your gear you can expect to find these items lasting for a few years or wearing out very quickly. To prevent this rapid wear and tear you should get some advice about the best stores which will supply top quality MMA gear.
Once you have purchased the MMA gear that you want you will need to keep them in a safe place and you should check to see the condition of your gear at the end of a practice session. You might also need to see how your gear looks once you have taken it out of storage. By taking care of your MMA gear you can be assured that you will have gear that will provide the service that it was designed for in the first place.
So for those people who are interested in taking MMA classes you might want to check out the assorted MMA gear that you can buy. With these items you will be well prepared for your next MMA class.

Brian_Urlacher_54 asked: Me and a friend recently got interested in MMA, and I am thinking about taking up some Ju-Jitsu classes. Well neway, i recommended the movie Never Back Down to him and he called me and said he and I need to get gloves/mouthpieces/etc. And spar. So i agreed. But im thinking maybe we could do more.
Questions:
1: If we kept it between close friends, and had ppl sign waivers so that its not like were making them do it would it be okay?
2: I was thinking about buying several sets of gloves/head gear/etc, and just having them buy their own mouthpeices, and watever else.
3: Get a few more ppl and set up tournaments, and if we get enough maybe weight classes, etc.
Could this be okay if we made rule and made sure they were followed.
Like no going 100%, or atleast no full on face shots, no crotch shots, etc etc. Any thing else?

Im not just some wannabe teen that thinks Im bad ***, i was just thinking maybe it would give us something to do, and stuff.
What is the worst that could happen if we kept in in a basement, and werent making ppl pay for it. And had ppl sign waivers saying that they are allowing themselves to do it and know what could happen.
Also, my uncle is a state trooper so.. would that help me out any?? Just asking.
And, id make sure that either I, or my friend refereed it and made sure nothing happened, and prolly make it to where if the person falls down and doesnt get up within 3 secs or so its over, unless it goes into a submission. Then they have 10 secs to submit or i have them break, etc.
And have a video of each person consenting to the fight before it starts.
